Economic Perspective

South Africa's healthcare system is marked by significant disparities between the well-funded private sector and the underfunded public sector, deepening economic inequalities. 'Company Name' is a non-profit telemedicine organization aiming to bridge this gap by providing free healthcare services to the 71% of the population reliant on the public sector. Over the next five years, we aim to ensure that 5% of the most vulnerable population receives care from experienced U.S. volunteer doctors, particularly for non-communicable diseases.

Health Bridge is a non-profit telemedicine organization that aims to bridge this gap by providing free healthcare services, particularly targeting the 71% of the population dependent on the underfunded public sector. Over the next five years, this project’s goal is to ensure that 5% of the most vulnerable population in the public sector, needing treatment for non-communicable diseases, receive care from experienced volunteer doctors from the U.S. This will be achieved by employing doctors and conducting weekly sessions with the patients. By offering access to these volunteer doctors remotely, this initiative decreases the financial burden on individuals who cannot afford private care. This not only improves health outcomes but also reduces the economic strain on families who would otherwise need to allocate substantial portions of their income to healthcare expenses or medical aid schemes.

Furthermore, by enhancing the capacity of local healthcare providers and facilities to manage chronic conditions effectively, this project supports local economies and potentially reduces long-term healthcare costs associated with untreated illnesses. In the context of South Africa's proposed National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme, which aims to provide universal healthcare through a consolidated funding model, this initiative aligns with the goals of improving healthcare access and equity.
